Source-grounded prompt

What makes an AI prompt source-grounded?

A source-grounded prompt tells the model which approved material it may use, requires it to separate supplied facts from assumptions, defines the output format, and marks uncertainty instead of filling gaps.

KEY POINTS

What the operating concept requires

  • The source boundary matters more than a fictional expert role.
  • The prompt should prohibit invented facts, commitments, citations, prices, dates, and authorities.
  • A checkable output includes source locations, missing information, or an explicit unknown state where the task supports them.
  • The reviewer receives the source and draft together.
LIMITS

What this concept does not prove

  • Grounding reduces one failure path but does not guarantee faithful extraction, correct reasoning, or complete coverage.
  • A provider may still process prompt and source data under terms that the business must verify separately.
